There are plenty of closures to be aware of this Monday.

Oct. 9 marks Columbus Day, which has been a federal holiday since 1937. But while the date has long commemorated when explorer Christopher Columbus landed in North America, some states and cities have renamed the holiday Indigenous Peoples’ Day as a way to call attention to the losses experienced by Native Americans when Europeans colonized the land. President Joe Biden in 2021 became the first U.S. commander-in-chief to commemorate Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

So if you’re wondering whether banks, post offices, federal offices or the stock market will be open Monday, or if schools will still be in session, then MarketWatch has you covered. Here’s what you need to know.

Yes, U.S. stock markets, including the New York Stock Exchange and the NASDAQ, will be open and follow a regular schedule on Monday.
