Legendary British rock star Rod Stewart is saying goodbye to his sprawling Los Angeles mansion. Listed for a whopping $70 million, the estate is located in the prestigious gated enclave of North Beverly Park, known as one of the most expensive communities in the city.

The estate was custom-built for Stewart in the late 1990s by renowned mega-mansion architect Richard Landry. The property includes a 28,500-square-foot main house, 4,500-square-foot guest house, and three acres of manicured, palace-like grounds. In total, the English country-style home has a total of 13 bedrooms and 19 bathrooms between the two homes.

From the moment you drive behind the gates and along the long private driveway, you are transported to a European countryside. There’s a grand motor court with enchanting fountains and immaculate landscaping. The three-story home is fronted by ornate double doors and an impressive foyer and a magnificent double staircase that leads to the upstairs primary bedroom, which has a spa-like bathroom and massive walk-in closets. It also has a large private covered terrace that overlooks the majestic backyard and views of the city and canyons.

The three-story home’s main floor features an incredible great room, ideal for those who love to entertain. It has wood inlay floors and a hand-painted bar that connects to an outdoor covered loggia through beautiful French doors. This floor also has a gourmet chef’s kitchen that connects to two sitting rooms on each side; a tea room; and den with fireplaces and loggias. There’s also a formal dining room for up to 20 guests, a wine room, and a formal library with wooden floor-to-ceiling bookshelves and a marble fireplace.

It’s not difficult to imagine the large-scale hosting or intimate entertaining possible within the home. There’s even a designer speakeasy with Brèche de Vendôme marble and wood floors that leads to a screening room with private outdoor seating. The lawn area also has a 30-foot waterfall fountain.

If that’s not enough, there are two full-size gyms, an indoor recreation room that can be used for a range of hobbies, and a tennis court that has been converted into a 60-foot by 120-foot lit soccer field. Most impressive is a massive resort-style pool with an elevated hot tub and a large terrace and lounge space surrounding the pool. There’s also an outdoor kitchen and fireplace and many loggias with ample seating for many people. Nearly every vantage point from the home, both inside and out, has fantastic mountain and city views. Lastly, there’s a five-car garage. The private gardens and fountains that surround the home rival gardens of the most famous palaces around the world.

Even the guest house, with its four bedrooms and five bathrooms, is larger than most people’s homes. This is where the second state-of-the-art gym is located, and there are two large living rooms—perfect for hosting out-of-town family and friends or for older children with families of their own. The lavish and ornate home is certainly one of the most impressive properties in Los Angeles.

The home is listed with Michelle Oliver of Douglas Elliman.
