The Biden administration on Tuesday rolled out a fresh effort to limit so-called junk fees, as the Federal Communications Commission proposed a new rule that would require cable and satellite TV providers to provide upfront, all-in prices. President Joe Biden said in a statement that it’s “only the latest action taken by my administration to crack down on junk fees in order to increase transparency, and bring down costs for hard-working Americans,” and he criticized the providers for charging “’broadcast TV’ or ‘regional sports’ fees that in reality pay for no additional services.” Last week, Biden hosted a White House event focused on hidden fees for live entertainment.
